What makes Aurotrap an IoT rodent trap
Most rat traps are mechanical devices that capture rodents and wait to be checked.
An IoT rodent trap does more: it monitors itself, reports its status, and tells you when intervention is actually needed.
The Aurotrap detects each capture instantly and transmits it to the cloud, along with CO₂ cartridge level, battery health, and location – continuously available through Aurotrap Manager.
Why IoT changes everything in rodent control
Traditional pest control runs on schedules – six inspections per year, whether or not anything happened. Field data shows 70–80% of those visits find no activity. An IoT rodent trap inverts that logic: technicians act on data, not on the calendar.
From 6 to 2 visits per year
Routine service visits reduced by up to 67% – four unnecessary trips per location per year removed.
25,000 fewer kilometres driven annually
For technicians covering rural or industrial territories, that translates directly into lower fuel, lower CO₂, and lower operating cost.
46% less admin time
Automated reporting replaces manual logs and post-visit paperwork.
How the Aurotrap works
1. A rodent approaches
The rodent is lured in by bait. The open-tunnel design keeps neophobia low – rodents accept the trap faster than enclosed stations.
2. A piston triggers, providing an instant kill
Sensors detect and verify strike position. The piston fires. CO₂-powered, ~30 kg of force. Instant kill, no chemicals.
3. The rodent slides out – the trap resets
The rodent slides out by itself and the trap resets automatically, ready to strike again. ~80 activations per CO₂ cartridge.
4. Rodent report is sent
The event is reported. Capture, CO₂ level, battery, and trap health stream to the Aurocon platform in real time.

The Aurotrap system
Aurotrap Mobile
Technicians install and service through a smartphone app, with real-time alerts on captures, CO₂ levels, battery, and location.
Aurotrap Manager
The central hub, providing the overview of every trap, site, technician and more. Instant notifications, detailed statistics, compliance-ready reports.
The Aurotrap device
A patented multi-catch trap with a sensor-triggered piston powered by a replaceable CO₂ cartridge. 10+ years of operational lifetime, modular serviceable components.
What you gain with IoT-based rodent control
- Operational efficiency – fewer unnecessary visits, optimized routes
- Lower emissions – significant reduction in transport-related CO₂
- Automated compliance – audit-ready documentation, continuously
- Real-time visibility – every event logged, every trap accountable
- Preventive operations – technician time redirected from inspection to root-cause analysis
- Scalability – more traps per technician without more workload
Built for the long term
An IoT rodent trap is only as valuable as its operational lifetime.
Aurotrap is engineered for 10+ years of operation, with modular components that can be replaced individually and end-of-life disassembly for material recovery. Rodent control built as infrastructure, not a disposable product.
Tested and certified
- Independently penetration tested – IoT device rated at minimal risk (Daisy Corporate Services, UK)
- Radio and market compliance: FCC (US), RED (EU), ISED (Canada), RCM (Australia/New Zealand)
- Material compliance: RoHS, REACH, CP65
- Ingress protection: IPX5

FAQ
What is an IoT rodent trap?
An IoT rodent trap is a connected device that captures rodents and reports its own status – captures, battery, consumables, location – over a cellular or wireless network. Instead of being checked manually, it tells the operator when intervention is actually needed.
What network does an IoT rodent trap use?
The Aurotrap communicates via NB-IoT, a low-power cellular protocol built specifically for connected devices. No WiFi, no local network, no involvement from the customer’s IT department – install the trap and it is online.
Does an IoT rodent trap need WiFi or a local network?
No. The Aurotrap connects directly over NB-IoT cellular. This eliminates network configuration on site and makes deployment identical whether the trap is in a warehouse, an agricultural field, or an office basement.
How long does the battery last in an IoT rodent trap?
The Aurotrap runs 8–10 months on a single charge thanks to NB-IoT’s low-power design. Batteries are rechargeable, and battery status is monitored continuously through Aurotrap Manager so replacement is planned, not reactive.
Can I integrate an IoT rodent trap with my existing pest control software?
We provide Aurotrap API setup with third party software with large scale operations. This allows corporations connected to sizable software platforms to have direct integration with Aurotrap data without manual exports or double entry.
How much data does an IoT rodent trap transmit?
Very little – NB-IoT is designed for compact, infrequent messages such as capture events, battery status, and CO₂ cartridge level. This is what enables both long battery life and low operational cost.
Is my data secure on an IoT rodent trap system?
The Aurotrap has been independently penetration tested by Daisy Corporate Services and rated at minimal risk. Security is addressed at three layers – device, transmission, and backend – and reviewed continuously as part of Aurocon’s development cycle.
