Why food production has unique rodent control requirements
In food production, rodent control is not just an operational task – it is a food safety control point. Contamination risk, allergen management, third-party audit obligations, and customer specifications all converge on the same question: what is in the facility, and can you prove it?
Traditional rodenticide-based control creates the exact risks the industry works hardest to prevent – chemical residues, secondary contamination, and paper-based documentation that is difficult to verify. Non-toxic, connected rodent control removes those risks entirely.
What food safety auditors expect
Every major food safety framework – HACCP, BRCGS, IFS Food, FSSC 22000, SQF – requires documented pest control activity, evidence of monitoring effectiveness, and traceable service records. Auditors will ask:
- Where is every trap and monitoring point in the facility?
- When was each one last inspected, serviced, or activated?
- What was the outcome of every intervention?
- Is the documentation complete, timestamped, and reproducible?
Manual paper logs meet the minimum bar. A connected, automated system exceeds it.
How Aurotrap meets food safety framework requirements
Zero-contamination hardware
No rodenticides, no bait residues, no toxic materials in the device itself (RoHS, REACH, CP65 compliant). Nothing in an Aurotrap can contaminate a food product, packaging line, or storage area.
Continuous automatic documentation
Every capture, service event, CO₂ cartridge change, and battery replacement logged automatically with timestamp and location. Reports generate directly from operational data.
Complete portfolio visibility
QA teams can be given read-only access to the same live dashboard the pest control provider uses. Real-time data for the site, and a full audit trail whenever it is needed.
Sensitive-environment design
Closed-system capture, IPX5 water protection, and open-tunnel design suitable for both perimeter deployment and production-adjacent zones.
How the Aurotrap works
1. A rodent approaches
The rodent is lured in by bait. The open-tunnel design keeps neophobia low – rodents accept the trap faster than enclosed stations.
2. A piston triggers, providing an instant kill
Sensors detect and verify strike position. The piston fires. CO₂-powered, ~30 kg of force. Instant kill, no chemicals.
3. The rodent slides out – the trap resets
The rodent slides out by itself and the trap resets automatically, ready to strike again. ~80 activations per CO₂ cartridge.
4. Rodent report is sent
The event is reported. Capture, CO₂ level, battery, and trap health stream to the Aurocon platform in real time.

The Aurotrap system
Aurotrap Mobile
Technicians install and service through a smartphone app, with real-time alerts on captures, CO₂ levels, battery, and location.
Aurotrap Manager
The central hub, providing the overview of every trap, site, technician and more. Instant notifications, detailed statistics, compliance-ready reports.
The Aurotrap device
A patented multi-catch trap with a sensor-triggered piston powered by a replaceable CO₂ cartridge. 10+ years of operational lifetime, modular serviceable components.
Documentation that stands up to audit
Aurotrap Manager produces the exact documentation food safety audits require, without additional administrative work:
- Trap inventory with location, ID, and installation history
- Complete capture and activity history per trap and per site
- Service event log – every intervention timestamped
- Compliance-ready reports exportable for HACCP, BRCGS, IFS, FSSC 22000, and equivalent frameworks
- API for direct integration into existing QMS or food safety management systems in select cases with large scale corporations
Where Aurotrap fits in food operations
- Perimeter protection – external monitoring points around the facility
- Storage areas – raw materials, packaging, finished goods
- Loading docks and dispatch – the highest-risk entry points
- Ancillary areas – utilities, waste zones, staff facilities
- Production-adjacent zones where sensitive design and closed-system capture matter most
Working with your existing pest control provider
Aurocon is a product and platform company – Aurotrap is deployed and serviced by your existing pest control provider (or one of Aurocon’s partner PCOs, if you don’t have one yet).
Read-only access to Aurotrap Manager can be extended to your QA team so pest control activity is visible in real time on both sides.
Tested and certified
- Independently penetration tested – IoT device rated at minimal risk (Daisy Corporate Services, UK)
- Radio and market compliance: FCC (US), RED (EU), ISED (Canada), RCM (Australia/New Zealand)
- Material compliance: RoHS, REACH, CP65
- Ingress protection: IPX5

FAQ
What rodent control methods are approved for food production?
Most modern food safety frameworks (HACCP, BRCGS, IFS, FSSC 22000) do not prescribe specific methods but require that the method used is effective, monitored, documented, and does not itself create contamination risk. Non-toxic multi-catch systems like the Aurotrap meet all four criteria without introducing chemical residues.
Does the Aurotrap meet HACCP requirements?
Yes. HACCP requires pest control to be a documented, monitored, and verified control point. Aurotrap provides continuous automatic monitoring, timestamped event logs, and audit-ready reporting – meeting or exceeding what HACCP prescribes.
Aurotrap generates the continuous, timestamped inspection and service records that HACCP requires as part of a documented pest control PRP. The wider PRP — programme, thresholds, corrective actions — sits alongside the Aurotrap data in the customer's own quality system
Multi-catch capability is what makes real infestation control possible without poison. The Aurotrap continues capturing rodents without manual reset – up to approximately 80 activations per CO₂ cartridge – while reporting each event in real time.
How does non-toxic rodent control protect food safety?
It removes chemical contamination risk at the source. No rodenticide is present in the facility, so there is nothing to migrate to food surfaces, packaging, or storage areas – and no need to manage bait station handling as a food safety control point.
Can Aurotrap be installed in production zones as well as perimeters?
Yes. Closed-system capture, IPX5 water protection, and open-tunnel design make the Aurotrap suitable for perimeter and production-adjacent zones. Placement is agreed with your pest control provider based on site risk assessment.
How does automated documentation support food safety audits?
By replacing manual logs. Every event is timestamped and stored indefinitely; reports generate directly from operational data with no reconstruction required. Auditors get complete, verifiable records instead of paper logs assembled after the fact.
What happens during a food safety audit with Aurotrap installed?
The auditor requests the pest control documentation for the audit period. Instead of paper logs, they receive Aurotrap Manager reports covering every event, every service intervention, and every service intervention – all timestamped, all traceable, and all generated automatically.
